MEMORIES OF SATHANOOR DAM
Trip to Sathanoor Dam with my parents, my cousins, my aunt, my uncle, with our family friends in late 1960s when I was very young and also in mid 70's and my last trip here was just recently in 2009 as I really wanted to see this place which I had visited when I was a child. The memories that I can cherish after my death also.
Being a Vellorian - I think I had a great time travelling from the time I was young. I made blunders in my life after 1993 but at the same time I had good times. The only sad part is that I am unable to enjoy these lovely moments to cherish with people who are dear and near to me. I do not remember which year, but I am going to be uploading photos from my trips with my mother and my family members.
Sathanoor Dam - A beautiful place which was built in 1954 almost 12 years before I was born. I remember that there were several movie song sequences that were being shot here at this dam because it had a nice garden. As, I remember writing this blog that I need to write my blog about visiting Mysore Krishnasagar dam and a visit to Alapuzha dam in Kerala during my South India Trip. I will blog that separately as South India tour as I have visited almost all part of South India up-to Rameswaram, Kaniyakumari and Trivandrum in Kerala.
This place is a beautiful place opened by then late Mr. Kamaraj the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu in 1954. This was well kept and the garden was beautiful when I visited and saw it during late 60s and early 70s. I remember my parents have taken me there when I was a child and also again when I grew up. I have memories of my mother who has taken a lot of photos there and I was probably 3 or 4 years old at that time. I remember Gopi and Geetha who used to be our neighbors when we were tenants. I am not sure where these people are, we have not had any touch with them for the last 48 years. I am not sure they do even know who I am or even could recollect if they are anywhere in the world.
After we moved to another house for rent in late 69 which was GK Mohan's house. Well GK Mohan is a famous person who was a Congress politician in Vellore. He was very respectful of my dad and also my mom. He used to always call my mom Akka Akka (which means sister). His parents were wonderful people and he had a brother, I forgot his name. They were wonderful people.
I recently visited Sathanoor dam in 2009 and it was still beautiful but they could have maintained it better with the funding from the Tamilnadu government and could have made it a nice picnic spot for people around 100 mile radius. For sometime droughts in Tamilnadu created a lot of dryness and this damn was neglected, but still they had kept it up nicely. I remember to an extent they have maintained it. I was watching a movie today in Murasu TV which telecasts old movies from 50s to 70s and Gemini Ganesan's Sumaithangi was playing and in that there was a song that was shot in Sathanoor dam. As, I said in the beginning yes there were several movie songs that was made here in this place.
