MY SOUTH INDIA TOUR

If I am correct, I think it was anywhere between 1975 through 1978 I went on a South India tour, For some reason my mother could not come and I went with my Uncle Vincent, Aunt Regina and their son Arulkumar. My Uncle resides in my mothers village Kaniyambadi. He is my mother's cousin brother. He was a Math teacher in Kannamangalam High School.

This was one of those beautiful trips and I still would love to take a trip like this visiting so many places in South and North India. The places we visited during this trip are (This is me trying to remember after 40 years - I am almost 98% sure of most of the places but there could be more places I would have visited but with my memory what I could these are the places):

1. Thiruvannamalai Temple
2. Thanjavur Temple
3. Thiruchendoor Temple
4. Poompuhar
5. Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple
6. Alapuzha Dam
7. Trivandrum
8. Thirusoor Temple
9. Rameswaram
10. Kaniyakumari

I very well remember our Thanjavur Temple visit with the Nandhi being the highlight, then Thiruchendoor Temple with the beach, Poompuhar which I have been several times, Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple which was a highlight for its Gopuram, Alapuzha Dam (Actress MGR Latha was shooting a song here with a Malayalam actor) and an odd statue in this Dam (A naked woman from hip above), Trivandrum as I remember very well the palace we visited there, Thirusoor temple with all the elephants all dressed up, Rameshwaram with the train ride (during night) and reaching their early morning and then visiting the temple. Kaniyakumari going to visit the tip were all the three seas join together and Vivekananda Rock trip by boat.

These are wonderful memories that I wanted to blog. It was something I still cherish and remember. We went by bus and it was a 10 day or 12 days trip which I cannot remember very well. I loved every bit of it, but I still want to go back to Kerala and take the boat ride. Stay in the boat for 2 days and travel the backwaters. I will definitely do it in the next couple of years once my son's obligation is over.

Watch for it soon!
